Class of 1968

I was born in Longmont, Colorado and attended Evans Public School until my parents moved me to CSDB when I was 12 years old. I graduated in the class of 1968 and have been an active member of the Deaf community ever since. After graduating from CSDB, I wanted to become a draftsman, but driven by my passion for the Deaf community and my desire to work with children, I changed career paths and earned an associate degree from Pikes Peak Community College in child development. I am very proud of my 30-year career spent at CSDB mentoring and leading others.

I have been an active member of CSDBAA since 1990 and have served as the treasurer and the chair person for the CSDB Alumni Association Reunion. I continue to be involved with CSDBAA as I am passionate about supporting future generations of CSDB graduates, serving as a role model and providing and supporting social opportunities for Alumni.

In 2014 I became the first Deaf member of the CSDB Board of Education where I have had the opportunity to promote educational excellence and model service and character to the Deaf and the Blind community. I am committed to supporting staff and students and developing each child as an individual who will be independent and successful.

Going to school at CSDB changed my life. It gave me access to the Deaf community, skills to develop into a leader, social skills, language, and experiences that have led to a rich and rewarding life. I take great pride in being a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend. One of my best memories at CSDB was gaining access to American Sign Language (ASL) for the first time because it gave me opportunities to communicate with people worldwide. I also had access to sports (football, wrestling and track), and I competed in The Deaflympic Games as a wrestler in four times.
